Position: Certaldo 1937 is an ancient tuscan farmhouse of the 18th century located in the heart of the Chianti wine-lands, only a couple of kms away from the ancient hilltop villages of Certaldo (4 kms) and S. Gimignano (12 kms) and within easy driving distance from Florence and Siena (30 kms).Thanks to its favorable position up of a hill by a century-old pinewood park and surrounded by the splendid Tuscan landscape of cultivated hills of olives and vines, Certaldo 1937 enjoys the benefit of an airy climate and pleasant fresh air even in the hottest months.Style: the original, historic construction has been carefully preserved during the restoration works to leave intact all the original features (wood beamed ceilings, tiles and terracotta floors, stonewalls, etc..).
To recreate the old country farmhouse atmosphere but with a modern, cosy touch, the 2 apartments have been refurnished and decorated with selected items mixing stylish fittings to ancient pieces of furniture and objects of the past.
Echoes from the farming coulture still abound today also in the surrounding unspoiled countryside as you may find cats appearing from behind corners or see horses grazing free in the pastures.Activities: a bath in our swimming pool or a horse ride through the country by the near private horse riding school is, together with daily sightseeings at the close medieval hilltops villages and famous art cities, just one of the possibilities to make your stay in Tuscany an unforgettable experience.

Apartments

Certaldo 1937 is a 2 levels portion of farmhouse.
Our 2 apartments (Papavero for 2+1 guests and Lavanda for 4+2 guests) have their own private entrance and can also be let together for big families/friends gatherings (up to 9 people).
Our guests have free use of the garden area with swimming pool (out of ground type, 4x5 metres), barbecue and tables with chairs. The lovely garden and the peacefulness of the environs are an irresistible call for breakfasts in the outdoor and candlelight dinners.
Parking place available and guaranteed.

Papavero apartment

The apartment Papavero is composed by a big comfortably furnished kitchen, one bedroom with stonewalls and one bathroom with shower/bathtub. All in cotto floors, original wood beamed ceilings and authentic tuscan brick tiles arches, the apartment Papavero has a total surface of 45 square meters.
Once used as a horse stall, still preserves all those particular details that make its peculiarity (stone manger in the bedroom, forged iron rings on the walls to tie horses, horse hoofs, etc…).
Absolutely unique, this delightful apartment is perfect for romantic holidays.The kitchen is well furnished with capacious extractible wood boxes and is fully-equipped with fridge/freezer, oven, electric 4 ring stove, kettle, toaster, microwave. It has an extensible table with 4 chairs that can sit all the party when the house is rented in full.
Its French window opens directly to the garden so that it is fit to prepare meals and drinks inside and enjoy them in the lovely outdoor.

Lavanda apartment

The apartment Lavanda has been TOTALLY RESTORED in the year 2009 and presents COMPLETELY NEW bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, floors, furniture. The apartment is therefore even more comfortable and cosy, with pretty new rooms.
Located on the first floor of the Villa, it is composed by 1 double room (twin or king size bed), 1 bedroom for 4 people with 1 king + 1 bunk bed, 2 en-suite bathrooms with shower and w/c, 1 fully equipped kitchen.
The apartment sleeps 4+2.
The rooms, all with beamed ceilings and cotto tiles, are connected to the ground floor by an internal cotto staircase that leads directly to the garden by the glass front door.
In the bright hall there is a comfortable antique sofa in wrought iron. The kitchen/dining room is well-equipped with fridge/freezer, electric oven with stove, kettle, toaster, microwave.

Environs

The holiday house is the ideal place for those who wants to plunge into Tuscany’s enchanting countryside and way of living combining the convenience of reaching the main places of historic, artistic and cultural interest in a very short time.
The major art cities are within an hour’s reach: Florence and Siena are at only 30 km, Pisa at 45, Volterra at 30.For those who love to discover the small medieval villages still intact, there are many places to choose from: from the charming S. Gimignano, very close by (only 12 km) to out of time towns the likes of Monteriggioni, San Donato in Poggio, Greve in Chianti and all other ones along the Chianti route.The nearby medieval hilltop village of Certaldo (4 km) is absolutely worth a visit: it is one of the best preserved villages with an important cultural heritage (Certaldo is the birthtown of Boccaccio, the Decameron’s writer) and very strong sense of the past with art and traditions still kept alive.In Mid July you can’t miss “Mercantia”, Certaldo’s most imitated traditional, folkloristik open air festival with street bands, popular theatre, art and handycrafts exhibitions, which takes place all along its red brick narrow streets from dusk to dawn.
Downtown, many shops and facilities (banks, supermarkets, grocery stores, etc…) and a trainstation with daily connections to Siena and Florence.

Our swimming pool is a pure blessing after a hot summer day.
The close by manège is at guests disposal for horse-riding lessons and, for most experienced ones, for unforgettable treks through the woods and surrounding hills passing through breathtaking locations up to the ancient town of Certaldo.Private cooking lessons can be organised in a nearby spot with an esperienced Italian chef.
