Activities
The property is located in the region of Tuscany, an area of great historical and artistic interest. The vacation house is situated at the foot of Cortona, an ancient Etruscan town, founded by the residence of Umbria about 3,000 years ago, even before Rome was established. Cortona is a constant point of reference for travelers and connoisseurs of art.
Here you can admire the paintings of Signorelli, a Renaissance inspirer of the great Michelangelo. His paintings are preserved in the Museum Diocesan and in the Church of St. Nicholas. There are many paintings in the town of Cortona, ranging from the middle ages to the twentieth century. Some of these come from art schools like “Senese” and “Fiorentino”, from famous artists like Beato Angelico” up to “Gino Severini” (one of the founders of Futurism).
For lovers of Archeology MAEC - Archaeological Museum of Cortona is a must-see, because there are very interesting Etruscan objects preserved there. Some of them include the 'chandelier' and the 'jewels of the Princess'.
Taking the narrow streets of Cortona is like traveling back in time to discover, through the senses, the ancient perfumes, sounds, colors and shapes. The ancient palaces and solemn, beautiful churches are the background to the voices of Toscana; the fantastic smells of the “trattorias” (small typical restaurants) will engulf your senses. The attractions in the city are abundant and varied. Each August the Tuscan Sun Festival is an event of international character, bringing a stream of opera lovers.
The “Archidado” Joust is a medieval costume tournament that is held during the summer through the streets of the city. Inside the buildings there are many exhibitions, such as the exhibition of antique furniture; it is of prime national importance.
Visitors have chosen to spend entire seasons of the year in Cortona and have made it known to people in remote areas through their books. Venture out of the Etruscan walls that surround the city to discover picturesque villages perched on rolling hills.
The history of country people has left us Colonial houses, vineyards, olive groves and their culinary crafts.
The property is located among fields of sunflowers and is very close to highway 71. This links the area to major urban centers, as well as to the Florence – Rome train, to the autostrada del Sole (A1) and the highway Perugia - Siena.
From here you reach Siena, Chianti, Umbria and the outlet village of Valdichiana (a modern shopping center where you can find dozens of shops of known fashion designers at discount prices).
